La Jolla is not its own city. It is part of San Diego, and it still has this page because the streets are a distinct drive from Mission Valley: up Interstate 5, then into the village on Torrey Pines Road or Prospect Street. The Cove and Girard Avenue are the center of the village. North of that are the campus and the bluffs. All of it is standard coverage, the same metro price as the rest of San Diego. Four attempts. No rural surcharge. There is no La Jolla office and no separate La Jolla fee. The village streets around Prospect and Girard are steep, short, and slow. Torrey Pines Road is the way in from the freeway. North of the village, the campus and the research buildings have their own gates and their own naming. A lab building is not a cottage off the Cove. If the person is at the university by day and in the village at night, pick the door you want and the hours. We do not serve 'La Jolla' as an area. We serve the address. Hills and one-way segments make a wrong turn expensive, so the unit and the cross street belong in the notes. The four attempts are the same product used in the rest of San Diego.

The nearest courthouse is the Central Division downtown, in the 1100 Union Street area. You reach it southbound on the 5. The North County courthouse in Vista is much farther up the coast. For a La Jolla address, Central is nearest.

The serve itself

An in-person serve is a server at the building with the documents. Same day is $195. The first attempt is the day the order is accepted, when that day is a business day. Next day is $175. Standard is $150, and the first attempt comes within one to three days. Four attempts are included, with notes and a proof of service. If the four are completed without service, you get a declaration of due diligence. Self-represented people in San Diego County cases have the proof of service/declaration mailed to the court. Other courts get the proof returned for filing.
