Above the grade on I-8

Alpine sits above Interstate 8, east of the grade out of El Cajon. Alpine Boulevard is the downtown street, parallel to the freeway, with the shops and the side streets running off it. The Viejas grade is just west of town. Addresses in Alpine are rural, not standard. The surcharge is $45 and the attempt count is three. Alpine Boulevard is the downtown, parallel to I-8, and it is where the shops are. The residential streets climb above and below the freeway. A boulevard storefront and a house on the hill are both Alpine, and both take the $45. The grade west of town, toward Viejas, is windy and slower than the map suggests, especially when the freeway is the only way back to El Cajon. If the business closes at a set hour, write the hour. Three attempts on a closed shop are three attempts. El Cajon, down the hill, does not get this surcharge. Check the city on the address before you assume the valley price.

The base prices stay the same and the $45 stacks. A standard serve is $150 plus $45. Next day is $175 plus $45. Same day is $195 plus $45. Do not read the $150 as the out-the-door number. East County Division in El Cajon is the nearest courthouse. It is a westbound trip down I-8, and it is much closer than Central downtown or the Vista courthouse. South County in Chula Vista is not the nearest. There is no Alpine office. Mission Valley is where the papers are kept, and the server climbs I-8 from San Diego. El Cajon itself, down in the valley, is still the metro price. Alpine is past that line.

Three tries, then the proof

In person, someone brings the documents to the address. Timing follows the price you pick. Same day, the first attempt is that business day. Next day, it is by the next day. Standard, it is within one to three days. Three attempts are included, with notes and a proof of service. A declaration of due diligence is prepared if service is not made. Self-represented customers in San Diego County have the proof of service/declaration mailed to the court. Customers with any other court receive the proof back.

The office answers 619-399-3278 Monday through Friday, 7am to 5pm PST. The company is licensed and bonded. You may order Alpine on the form without a preliminary call. After closing, orders start the next business day.

Service attempts are also made outside of these office hours.

Alpine and the towns around it

Use the order page. Check same-day process serving for how the $195 base works. Check the proof of service guide for the mailing. The areas page shows which towns are rural. El Cajon is down the hill, at the metro price, with the courthouse in town. Lakeside is northwest, also a $45 town, on the 67 rather than I-8.
