What should you include in an order?
An order needs the service you want, the person to be served, the address or email for that service, and the papers uploaded to that same job. On a serve, the court, the parties, the case number, and a hearing date are optional. A court filing still needs the court. Missing the person, the address, the papers, or a filing's court is what stalls a job. Rockstar does not invent a case number or an address for you.
You can sign in, create an account, or continue as a guest, then pay by card. Orders placed after 5pm PST, Monday through Friday, are processed the next business day. The office phone is 619-399-3278, answered 7am–5pm PST, at 3111 Camino Del Rio North, Suite 400A, San Diego, CA 92108. Incarceration service is not on the form. Call to arrange it.
Service attempts are also made outside of these office hours.
The case, the person, and the papers
Each job has its own page for the people, the case, and the documents. Upload only the set that belongs to that job. Enter the court, including San Diego Superior Court Central in downtown San Diego, North County in Vista, East County in El Cajon, South County in Chula Vista, or the US District Court for the Southern District of California, if that is the court on your papers. A hearing date, if you have one, belongs in the case fields too.
For a business, mark the person as an agent, officer, attorney, or representative and name the business. If you do not know which of those applies, call before you order. The proof of service guide explains what comes back after a completed serve, including the San Diego County mailing for self-represented people and the email copy. Other courts get the proof returned to you to file.
The address and the attempt budget
The address on the job is where the attempts go. Next day process serving is $175, with the first attempt the next day and four attempts total. Same day is $195 and standard is $150, with the same four attempts and a different first-attempt time. Jamul, Alpine, Ramona, Fallbrook, Lakeside, Valley Center, and Bonsall are $45 more and three attempts. Extra-rural addresses are $100 and two attempts. Call before you order an extra-rural address.
The how many attempts guide is the longer explanation of those counts. A different address is a separate serve at full price. An extra person at the same address is $40 on same day, next day, and standard only. Email service, at $60, is not that attempt budget. First-class mail is $60 and certified mail is $75, same day if in before 12pm PST. After 12pm PST, we may mail them the next business day.
Add-ons and jobs that are not on the form
A specific time window is $30. A stakeout, when someone must wait, is $80 per hour with a two-hour minimum, and there is no promise the person will be there. The minimum is billed even if the person is found sooner. An additional case is $30. Notarization is $40 per signature. Military base service is $65 and is refunded if base approval cannot be arranged. Printing is $.30 per page after 40 pages.
Skip tracing is its own line, not an add-on to a serve. Skip tracing is $50 for basic and $200 for comprehensive, per person, with a full refund if there are no results. There is no refund for outdated addresses, and no guarantee a current residence exists. Incarceration service covers a person in custody. The first attempt is within one to three days, with four attempts. The incarceration service page describes that work. It is not on the order form.
After you submit
Place the job on the order form and pay the total at the end. Court filing, if you need it, is a separate service: $250 same day, $200 next day, or $150 standard, and drop box filing is $150, $115, or $70 on those turnarounds. Filing, certification, and copy fees that Rockstar advances add 8% or $4.00, whichever is greater. Filing is not included in a serve.
If something on the form does not match the papers, say so in the order notes or call 619-399-3278 during office hours. The FAQ answers the pricing questions that come up most often. The contact form is for a message about an existing order or a job the menu does not describe. Staff will tell you what the office can schedule. They will not tell you what a court will decide.
What documents do I upload?
Upload the papers that belong to that job, on that job's page, not on a different case in the same cart. On a serve, the court, the party names, the case number, and a hearing date are optional. A court filing still needs the court. Printing is included for the first 40 pages and is $.30 per page after that. Rockstar serves the documents you provide and does not draft them.
When does an order placed after closing start?
Orders placed after 5pm PST, Monday through Friday, are processed the next business day. That is when a same-day or next-day first attempt starts. Mail in before 12pm PST goes out the same day. Mail after 12pm PST may go out the next business day. The office phone is answered 7am–5pm PST.
Service attempts are also made outside of these office hours.
