San Diego County
Incarceration service
Incarceration service covers a person in custody. The first attempt is within 1–3 days, and four attempts are included. It is not on the order form.
Service on a person in custody
Incarceration service is for a person who is in custody. You cannot add it to the cart. It is not on the order form. The office is at 3111 Camino Del Rio North, Suite 400A, San Diego, CA 92108. A witness fee is the check written to that person. The order adds 8% or $4.00, whichever is greater.
The facility and the person’s name have to be confirmed before anyone drives. A website checkout cannot ask the follow-up questions this job needs. The order form does not list this service.
Timing and the four attempts
The first attempt is within 1–3 days. Four attempts are included. That is the same attempt count as a standard door serve, and a similar first-attempt window. The place is different. We are dealing with a jail, a prison, or another facility that keeps the person, not with a house on a residential street.
The office is open Mon–Fri, 7am–5pm PST. Requests that come in after closing are processed the next business day. A request that arrives at 6pm is not an attempt that night. The 1–3 day window starts when we process the request. Weekend days are not office days. The hearing date has to fit that window.
Service attempts are also made outside of these office hours.
What the job needs
The job needs the person’s full name and the facility if you know it. A booking number, a housing unit, or an inmate number helps when you have it. It also needs the case name, the court, the hearing date, and the documents. We cannot serve from a description of the lawsuit.
We serve San Diego County and we are licensed and bonded. If the person is on a military base rather than in custody, that is the $65 military base add-on on a serve. If the person was in custody and is now at a house, that is a street serve at $195, $175, or $150.
What we will and will not promise
Facilities set their own visiting and service rules. We follow the rules of the place that has the person. We do not promise that a given jail will let a server in on a given morning. We make up to four attempts, and we write down what happened. If the facility refuses the visit, that refusal is part of the record.
We do not give legal advice about whether service on someone in custody is proper in your case. We do not tell you which statute applies. We do not calculate time. For self-represented people on San Diego County court matters, the proof is handled with the job. A declaration of due diligence is the record we prepare when attempts are used without service.
Fees we will not invent on this page
There is no posted price for incarceration service. This page does not list a dollar figure and does not send you into checkout for this job. Other jobs do have posted prices: same day $195, next day $175, standard $150, email $60, First-Class $60, certified mail $75. Those are different services. Do not pay for one of them and expect a jail attempt.
The $40 extra-person fee is for same day, next day, and standard in-person serves at one street address. It is not an incarceration rate. Rural surcharges are for outlying towns on a door serve. Printing is $.30 per page after the first 40 pages when we print. Notarization is $40 per signature.
