Third Avenue and the South County court
Third Avenue is downtown Chula Vista, and the South County Division of San Diego Superior Court is on that same street. If the person to be served lives or works in Chula Vista, that courthouse is the nearest of the four Superior Court divisions. Central is up Interstate 5 in downtown San Diego, East County is in El Cajon, and North County is in Vista. Chula Vista is standard coverage. Four attempts are included. There is no rural surcharge. The bay side of town, the blocks between I-5 and Interstate 805, and the eastern streets out toward Otay are the same metro price.
A Chula Vista day usually splits at the 805. West of it, the streets run toward the bay and the blocks are older. East of it, toward Otay, the addresses are newer and the complexes are larger. Apartment gates show up on both sides. A gate code or a building letter belongs in the order notes, because time spent at the wrong entrance is still one of the four attempts. If the person is at a job on weekdays and a residence after that, say so. The metro price does not change for the note. It changes whether the first drive is the useful one. Broadway and the west-side grid are a different drive from the shopping streets on the east side, and both are this page.
We do not keep an office on Third Avenue. Papers start at the San Diego office in Mission Valley, and a server drives south. The address on a receipt is that Mission Valley suite, not a Chula Vista branch.
The in-person prices
An in-person serve means someone goes to the door with the documents. The same-day price is $195 and the first attempt is that business day. Next day is $175, with the first attempt by the following day. Standard is $150, and the first attempt lands sometime in the first three days. You are buying those attempts, a written note of each one, and a proof of service. Four attempts come with the price. When they are exhausted without service, the paperwork you receive is a declaration of due diligence. Self-represented people in a San Diego County case have the proof of service/declaration mailed to the court. Any other court gets the proof back, and you file it.
A same-day order placed after 5pm, or over a weekend, waits until the next morning the office is open. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 7am to 5pm PST, at 619-399-3278. The company is licensed and bonded.
Service attempts are also made outside of these office hours.
Pages that go with this one
Use the order form once the address is confirmed. Read same-day process serving if the first attempt has to be today. The proof of service guide is the page that describes the mailing. Every other city is on the areas list. National City is the next city north, still South Bay, still the metro rate. Imperial Beach is west, on the sand, and it is standard coverage too.
