How do you serve a business?
To serve a business, you name the person who will receive the papers, mark how they are connected to the business, and give the address where the attempt should be made. Rockstar Process Serving then runs the in-person serve you ordered. The office does not decide who the law requires you to name, and it does not tell you whether a court will accept service on that person.
On the job details page, choose agent, officer, attorney, or representative, and enter the business they are served on behalf of. If you do not yet know who should be named, call 619-399-3278 before you order, Monday through Friday, 7am–5pm PST. Same day is $195, next day is $175, and standard is $150. Each includes four attempts at that address.
Service attempts are also made outside of these office hours.
The person and the business address
The attempt happens at the address you enter. That may be a shop, an office, or the address you have for an agent. Standard process serving is $150 when the first attempt can wait one to three days. Same day and next day move the first attempt up and keep the same four tries. A rural address in Jamul, Alpine, Ramona, Fallbrook, Lakeside, Valley Center, or Bonsall is $45 more and includes three attempts. Extra-rural addresses are $100 and two attempts. Call before ordering those.
A different street address is a new serve at the full price, even when it is the same company. Write the suite, the floor, or the department if the building has more than one door. Orders placed after 5pm PST start the next business day. The server uses the papers you uploaded, so the business name on the documents and the business name on the order should match.
An extra person at the same address
An extra person at the same address is $40, and only on same day, next day, and standard service. Add that person on the job and the fee is part of the total. Email service does not add this charge. Use the extra-person fee when two people should be served at one location, not when they are at two locations.
An additional case on the same job is $30. Use it when a second caption has to travel with the same attempt, not when you need a second address. Notarization of the proof is $40 per signature if you need it. Printing after 40 pages is $.30 per page. None of those add-ons changes who is allowed to receive the papers. If you are unsure of the role, call before the first attempt rather than leaving the person field blank.
Email and mail are separate from the door
Service by email is $60. The documents go to the email address you provide. During office hours the send is the same day. It is not an in-person attempt budget, and it does not include the $40 extra-person fee. Rockstar does not tell you whether email is enough for your case. If you were told to use email, put that instruction on the order.
First-class mail is $60 and certified mail is $75. Both go out the same day if the order is in before 12pm PST. If it is not, we may mail them the next business day. Certified mail asks whether a green signature return receipt or standard return receipt is required. First-class postage may apply over 35 pages. A mailing does not replace the four in-person attempts unless that is the service you actually ordered. If you want both a doorstep attempt and a mailing, order both.
What to write on the order
Use the order form and fill in the recipient, the role, the business name, and the address on the same job as the uploaded papers. The what to include in an order guide is the longer checklist. If the papers might be handed to someone else at the business, or posted, read substituted service so you know what those methods look like. Rockstar still will not tell you which method a court will accept.
Shorter answers are on the FAQ. The contact form works when you need to describe a front desk, a locked lobby, or a registered agent address before anyone drives out. Call 619-399-3278 for that conversation during office hours. A stakeout, at $80 per hour with a two-hour minimum, can be added when someone needs to wait, with no promise the person will be there.
How much is a second person at the same business?
An extra person at the same address is $40 on same day, next day, and standard service only. A different address is a separate serve at the full price of the service you choose. Email service does not add the $40 charge. Call first if you do not know which person to name.
Can a business be served by email?
Email service is $60 and sends the documents to the email address on the order. During office hours it goes out the same day. It is not four in-person attempts. Rockstar does not decide whether email service is acceptable for your case. Put that instruction on the order if you already have it.
What if I do not know who should receive the papers?
Call 619-399-3278 before you order, Monday through Friday, 7am–5pm PST. The job details page asks you to mark the person as an agent, officer, attorney, or representative and to name the business. Rockstar does not choose that person for you and does not say who a court will require.
Service attempts are also made outside of these office hours.
