San Diego County
First-class mail
USPS First-Class mail is $60. It is mailed the same day if the order is submitted before 12PM PST. If it is submitted after that, we may mail it the next business day. First-class postage may apply over 35 pages. Add an additional defendant for $40.
What we put in the mail
USPS First-Class mail service is $60. We mail the documents you upload to the postal address you provide. This is a mailing, not a visit to a door, and it is not four attempts. We hand the packet to the mail stream once. We do not follow the letter carrier down the street. A witness fee is the check written to that person. The order adds 8% or $4.00, whichever is greater. Postage does not.
The service covers San Diego County work from this office, at 3111 Camino Del Rio North, Suite 400A, San Diego, CA 92108. We are licensed and bonded. We mail what you send us. We do not tell you whether First-Class mail counts as service in your case. That question belongs to the court or to your lawyer.
The noon cutoff
The packet is mailed the same day if you submit the order before 12PM PST. If you submit it after 12PM PST, we may mail it the next business day. Noon is the mail cutoff. It is earlier than the office close at 5pm. An order at 2pm is still inside office hours, and we may mail the letter the next business day.
Orders placed after closing are processed the next business day, and the mailing follows that. A Friday order at 4pm misses noon, so it is not mailed Friday. We may mail it the next business day. Weekend days are not mailing days. If the hearing date cannot absorb that, call 619-399-3278 before you rely on the mail.
Postage after 35 pages
The $60 includes a packet up to 35 pages. First-class postage may apply over 35 pages. A thick exhibit set can cost more than the service line because the post office charges by the piece. We add that postage. We do not hide it inside the $60.
Printing, when we print the set, is $.30 per page after the first 40 pages. Postage and printing are different meters. Count the pages before you upload if the stack is large. A second address is a second mailing, not a free extra. The $40 same-address fee is for in-person same day, next day, and standard serves, not for this mail line.
What the mailing does not include
First-Class mail does not include a return receipt. If you need to say whether a signature comes back, order certified mail at $75 and tell us the receipt is required. First-Class also does not include a stakeout, a skip trace, or a military gate. Those are separate lines with their own prices.
We can prepare a proof that describes the mailing. For self-represented people, mailing a proof of service/declaration to San Diego County courts is included on the in-person serve prices, not automatically on a $60 letter. If you need the proof hand-carried to a drop box, that is a court filing service. Read that page for the $70, $115, and $150 drop-box prices.
Address, name, and the file
Type the full mailing address and the name on the envelope. We print what you type. An apartment number left off the form is left off the envelope. If you are not sure the person still receives mail there, a skip trace is $50 or $200 per individual, and a failed search is refunded in full. An out-of-date address from a trace is not refunded.
Email service is the other $60 option, and it sends a file rather than an envelope. Certified mail is the step up when you need the receipt question answered on the order. Bring the case number if you want it on the proof. We do not open a court case, and we do not give you a hearing date.
